In Step 3, use the Pick Tool to rotate in PSP X and deselect the current selection before you rotate.
In Step 7, merge the layers is needed to add the drop shadow.

Keep tryin'...

Hello All,

New here, not so new to PSP but I am new to many of it's capabilities.

I cannot for the life of me get this tutorial to work.  I'm running PSP 9 so I don't have the "pick tool" which appears to be part of the answer in several posts to get this to work.

My first problem is step 3 - rotating using the deformation tool leaves a white box underneath the new rotated white box.  After that it just continues to go downhill...

I'm sure this can be acheived in v9 - can someone help?

3 Use Deformation tool (D)  to rotate the current object to a degree of your desire, mine is like 110%.

I DO THIS STEP.  ROTATE.  ARE WE SUPPOSED TO HAVE THE ORIGINAL BOX WE CREATED BEHIND STIIL?
I DO.

THEN I DO THIS ONE.
BUT WHEN I DO THAT IT BRINGS UP ANOTHER LAYER.  I HAVE THE ORIGINAL PIC, RASTER LAYER AND PROMOTED LAYER.

4 Activate Selection tool (S)  and press Ctrl+D to deselect current selection. Press Ctrl+A. Click your mouse anywhere on the image.  This will make a selection as shown.  Save this selection to Alpha channel for later use ( Selections > Save to Alpha Channel ).  Name the saved selection as "Photo Border".
BUT WHEN I DESELECT THE SELECTION...(IS THAT THE ONE WE JUST CREATED?) AND DELETE NOTHING DELETES.  I STILL HAVE BOTH BOXES.

5 Contract current selection by 6 pixels ( Selections > Modify > Contract ). Then, hit the Delete key revealing the main object.
(Please note that the number of pixels depends on the actual size of your image.)

NOW WHEN I DO ALL THAT ABOVE (OR AT LEAST ATTEMPTING) INSTEAD OF THE TURNED BOX I HAVE DONE BEING OUTLINED....(WHICH IT IS NOT)................JUST THE IMAGE I HAVE IS OUTLINED.

CAN YOU TELL ME STEP BY STEP PROCEDURES ON WHAT YOU HAVE DONE AND WHAT TO EXPECT IN EACH STEP.  OR PUT WHAT IS GOING ON IN YOUR MATERIALS AND STEP BOX ON THE TUTORIAL FOR US THAT ARE HAVING ISSUES.

HI there. I just tried this tutorial in PSP XI and it didn't work. When I'd go to rotate the active layer on the raster layer, it would create a promoted layer and nothing would go after that. I couldn't even load the selected portion into the Alpha Channel. Could anyone tell me what I might be doing wrong?

Thanks in advance.

After you fill the selection with white, deselect the white rectangle, then use the Pick tool to rotate.  Unlike version 7 which this tutorial was written for, a selection will be promoted to a layer and the selection removed in subsequent versions of PSP.  If you like, you can set the Auto Action to Prompt in File > Preferences > General Program Preferences.

Ctrl+1 is the keyboard shortcut in PSP 7 for making the bottom layer active.  You have to click on the bottom layer in later versions.

I'm about ready to give up!! GRRR! I've tried this 4 times now and tried deleting the original white square and so on (all the suggestions above) but I cannot get this to work! There has to be a way to do this in PSP 8!

Are you asking for help?  If so, then I will need the Step # that doesn't look like the one in the tutorial and exactly what part is not working for you.
