Hot Text

Tutorial is written for Paint Shop Pro 9. The methods used are compatible with Paint Shop Pro 7, 8 and 10.

1 Start this by creating a 600x600 pixels, black background image.  Add a new raster layer (Layers>New Raster Layer), name this layer "Text".  Then, apply text with Red-Orange-Yellow linear gradient fill as shown below.

Text Settings:
  • Font = Barracuda
  • Size = 72
  • Stroke = 0
  • Floating = Selected
  • Antialias = Checked

 

Duplicate the "Text" layer (Layers>Duplicate).  Rename the copied layer to "Flame".   Toggle off Text Layers visibility. Your Layer Palette should look similar to this:

 
2  Make "Flame" the active layer.  Rotate layer by 90 degrees to the left by pressing CTRL+R, (make sure Rotate All Layers is unchecked).  Apply Wind Filter (Effects>Distortion Effects>Wind), set Wind Direction = From Right and Strenght = 100.
