1 Start by making a 150x150 pixels, 16 Million colors and white background image.
Set foreground color to any color you wish, I am going to use dark red on this example (R=128 G=0 B=0). This will be the color of your button.
Set background color to black. |

2 Draw a rounded selection (as shown in the image) of any size.
Selection Type = Circle
Feather = 0
Antialias = checked |

3 Fill the the area of the circle with your foreground color.
Fill Style = Solid Color
Match Mode = None
Tolerance = 100
Opacity = 100
Sample Merge = NOT checked |

4 Save the current selection to Alpha Channel (Selections>Save to Alpha Channel)
and name your selection Outer
Contract your selection by 5 (Selections>Modify>Contract) Pixels = 5. Save the current selection to Alpha Channel (Selections>Save to Alpha Channel) and name your selection Inner
Add a new layer (Layers>New Raster Layer)
Set your foreground color to white and apply a solid color fill at your current selection (Inner). |

5 Deselect the inner selection by pressing [CTRL+D]
Draw a semi-ellipse selection off the center (see example) then press the [Delete] key
Selection type = Ellipse
Antialias = checked
(The X spot indicates where the light source will be coming from)

Load the outer selection (Selections>Load from Alpha Channel)
Apply the Gaussian Blur filter (Image>Blur>Gaussian Blur) Radius = 3 |

Next step is the add some shadow. Load the inner selection (Selections>Load
from Alpha Channel)
Add a new layer (Layers>New Raster Layer)
Set your foreground color to black and fill the inner selection with black color. |

8 Deselect the inner selection by pressing [CTRL+D]
Draw a semi-ellipse selection off the center (see example) then press the [Delete] key
Selection type = Ellipse
Antialias = checked
